Indian police took into custody 10 persons belonging to the Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi in Tamil Nadu yesterday for attempting to burn an effigy of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena after he had reportedly stated that Tamil Nadu fishermen would be targeted if they cross over into Sri Lankan waters for fishing.

The protesters led by party’s Thanjavur North district secretary Selvam tried to burn an effigy of Mr. Sirisena near the Uchi Pillayar shrine as a protest against Sri Lankan President.

Speakers at the protest demonstration recalled that Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wikramasinghe too had said the same thing in the past.(Hindu)

RW said they would be shot which was a very serious action. MS has only said they would be only targeted which is only a warning to these Indian thieves that they cannot steal the fish in our waters. MS is quite right !

Every month Couple of Pakistani fellows are gun downed by Indian Army for crossing the Indian border line. Its perfectly ok for our PM or President to make a statement of this nature. It is strange that the Tamil Nadu Government as well as the Central Government of Modi not educating their fellow Citizens on this vital issue.

These fishermen are only affecting tamils who waged a war against us for 30 years. Why are we so concerned about their fish? its not like their fishing boats are a military threat. Let them fish, dont ruin our relations with india. This TN and northern tamils problem not ours

The former president says his loss was a Indian conspiracyIf it is true why are they even taking much more strict action to stop Indian thieves than he did?

This is not the first time. They have been doing this from a long time, and no action has been taken by the Indian authorities .Our President is too kind. The whole world can see what kind of a mess we are in with people like Mr.Rajitha making funny statements. I think we should appreciate Mr.Ranil, for what he said
