The Prisons Department said today they had received 13 applications in response to an advertising calling for applications to fill the two vacant posts of hangmen.

Assistant Commissioner Aruna Attapattu said the vacancies were advertised a month ago, based on Justice Ministry approval.

He said the two vacancies would be filled by the beginning of November and the successful candidates would be given two-weeks training prior to assuming duties.

Mr. Attapattu said the two hangmen recruited on an earlier occasion had left during the training period.

Before imposing death penalty we must ensure we have a proper justice system where all accused get proper and fair representation. Otherwise only the poor will be in galos the rich will escape. We have a long way to go.

During the two weeks training they must hang some condemned killers/rapists/drug dealers/crooks. Once they see they are really dead, then their training is ok. The Prison Dept. must arrange some samples for their first trial

Better to know who these 13 are? Should be the most laziest in the country who applied knowing very well there is no work to be done.I do nit understand the logic here. Why you need hangman when there us know death penalty being executed. Waste of public money.
