The Lotus Tower or Nelum Kuluna will turn out to become the next hot topic with regard to projects initiated by the previous government with Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga vowing to discuss the project with the President and the Prime Minister.

While on a visit to the Port City Project, the Minister said the tower was being constructed on land owned by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and that there were no documents to prove that land had been acquired for the project.

“The former SLPA chairman and the then subject minister should be responsible for this discrepancy. This is not just anybody’s land. It is SLPA land and there is a procedure that must be followed,” the minister said.

He said the land belonging to the SLPA had been provided under the guise of carrying out a development project but there were no development projects being conducted on this land.

“We will ensure that lands belonging to the SLPA will remain with the Authority and the income generated through projects on these lands or by the SLPA will be for the Authority,” he said. (Indika Sri Aravinda )

Please read the article on lankapage.com"Ports and Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has told reporters that a review is sought on the Chinese funded Lotus Tower project that is already under construction. The Minister has said that Sri Lanka does not need a tower like the Lotus Tower. "

    cheena Monday, 16 March 2015 01:27 PM

even SSC and other cricket sites not belongs to them.He is just a minister for oppose anything who can bring no good for the country. He played cricket but not now.His family represents all parties, you just name it they will have it..

Katie Machintosh Monday, 16 March 2015 01:18 PM

Having read all of the above comments I think everybody should try and analyze the whole situation. True there was development in the past and now most of it has come to a halt! but at what cost and at whose expense was these developments done and who benefited largely by these projects. Development should be done but not at the expense of the general public. Contractors have not been paid but forced to do the job without payment. Will any of the above commentators work for nothing? will any of you do charity in construction of roads etc Think a minute before you write.

Arjuna can demolish the tower and takeover the land back to SLPA.

    Kirthi Monday, 16 March 2015 11:11 AM

The people who could not do any development or initiate any project are barking, pure jealousy. Start the war too since it was stopped during the previous regime.

George Clooney Monday, 16 March 2015 10:40 AM

All these so called projects are a waste of money and puts everyone into debt while more than 80% are living below the poverty line.

    moodayoo Sunday, 15 March 2015 06:19 PM

    Leena Sunday, 15 March 2015 09:24 PM

@Ranga. Where did it say the project was to be stopped?LOL why is everyone worried that the tower will be taken down. And on an unrelated matter the expressway construction looks just as busy as it always was. Just drop in at the kaduwela area to take a look

    Rush Sunday, 15 March 2015 08:26 PM

Great. Please also remove the unwanted highways as well.

    surasena Sunday, 15 March 2015 08:23 PM

Development Projects? What sort of development that may offer to the nation via a giant pillar is questionable. Such amount of material, resources and etc.., should have utilized to build schools and houses to the poor.

    Laminate Sunday, 15 March 2015 07:20 PM

It seem previous regime nothing done as per the law of the country.......

    dilip Sunday, 15 March 2015 07:03 PM

Dear Mr.Ranatunga, you people are acting just like the monky with the razor in its hand. So what are your plans, to bring down the tower. Any good thing done for the country is a project, for your information sir. This is not cricket. So after you, the ministers of the last government must have been very stupid .This is government land, so where is the problem? Like every thing ,perhaps all the files are missing.

    ranga Sunday, 15 March 2015 06:47 PM

Stop the project until investigated???Where these idiots brains are, I wonder...transfer the ownership of the land to TRCSL and let the project commence...unless of course Mr.Ranathunga intends to pocket half the money...

    lion Sunday, 15 March 2015 06:19 PM

Next step is to remove the Matara and Katunayake highways......
