A Committee to gather information on allegations of corruption, misuse of funds and murders by members of the previous government would be set up by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), a party source said.

The JVP has been expressing disappointment over the delays in taking action on those in the previous regime that were alleged to have involved in corruption, misuse of funds and even murder.

The party said that it would help provide redress to those affected as well.

The committee comprises JVP Members of the Western Provincial Council Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa Lakshman Nipunarachchi and Member of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Hemantha Kumara.

Dr. Jayatissa told a media briefing that the committee expected to gather information on corrupt deals including giving State contracts to the associates of State hierarchy, killings and assaults of various persons including journalists, acquiring lands forcibly in Colombo and elsewhere, intimidation of State workers in various institutions and on disappeared persons.

The party also urged all businessmen and individuals to provide information on various intimidations they had to suffer by the politicians in the past.
He said the party would gather information from those who had suffered at the hands of financial institution heads in the past.

He said they already had information on acquiring one acre of land in Colombo 8 for an Urban Development Project and also taking over of lands in Ampara, Suriyawewa, Sevanagala and number of other areas. ( Yohan Perera )

Anura, there are a lot more to investigate. We have to start from the beginning. Anura must be a very young fellow,at that time, would not know those killings. All we knew was that JVP and UNP blamed each other for killing of thousands of young men, Grama niladharies, Journalists, singers, Politicians and many more.Somawansa please explain to this young fellow, what happen during 88/89. We can help you to prepare the list of killings which were not investigated proprly.

IN view of the foot dragging and back stage deals being struck by RW with those who shouldd be arrested and invaestigated, our hope is now in JVP, Champika et al. At this stage of the game a kangaroo court by JVP is perhaps preferable to long term stability of the country than softly softly approach being adopted to ensure no one is offended. At this rate RW will lose again. The new govt should be as matter of fact wit hthe investigations as the MR gove did 4 yrs ago when it was re-elected
