In an apparent cross over attempt that went wrong, Savithra De Silva, a UPFA member of the Dehiwela- Mt. Lavinia Municipal Council, today appeared at a news briefing held at the common opposition’s candidate office in Colombo and said that he would not betray Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The news briefing was held with the participation of UNP MP Sujeewa Senasinghe and several other members of the local government authorities.

Former Western Provincial Councillor Keerthi Udawatte had introduced Mr. De Silva saying he was willing to support common opposition presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

Mr. De Silva addressing the gathering told that the country was enjoying the freedom today because of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and went on to praise him, which startled MP Senasinghe and others who were present.

MP Senasinghe, who calmed the gathering, told people to let Mr. De Silva to proceed unharmed and wished him luck for his future in his political carrier.

    Ranjan Wednesday, 24 December 2014 09:16 PM

Just imagine if a UNP mp go to UPFA office and talk against Mahinda and praise My3 what will be the situation? and what will happen to that MP. This is the defference between MR regime and My3 regime. Wise People have got a real time experience choose the correct party.

The government faction is so bankrupt that they are forced to stage this kind of comedy with a guy who himself admitted that he has only three years experience in politics. You can spot ITN mike in the video. They never cover up pro Maithri meetings and this is pre-planned.

Nawaz Dawood Wednesday, 24 December 2014 09:27 PM

I do not understand this bogus cross overs mostly imitated by the UNP. I can see some people do not even acknowledge that we are better off security wise. However, all these cross overs are good for house cleaning of the government. They will be able to reward the true national heros in better footing. Champika Ranawake and Rajitha Senaratne are worse traitors. Maithripala Sirisena is a villain.

Think this is a publicity stunt by the government. Now this will be played all over the state media day and night.I also think the opposition should be more careful when handling crossovers. No need to just let it get to your head.

How pathetic it is to see this kind of poor tactics to prevent people from gathering around the common candidate by the regime. This is a clear indication that the president is well aware about the election defeat.
