While thousands of commuters were stranded in railway stations the Railway Trade Union Alliance said the strike action which were launched last night was a success.

While speaking to the Daily Mirror the spokesman of the union said several trains had operated yesterday but not after midnight.

He also said no higher authority responded to them and therefore, they would continue the strike today as well.

However, the Railway Control Room said 14 trains had been operated by this morning.

They said eight long distance trains were arrived in Colombo Fort and another six trains were operated between Panadura and Ragama. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

Yes, the people were affected very much. I saw the news where ladies were struggling to get in or even to hang on on the foot board. Really a sorry state. I am sure the striking employees were very happy to see all that. Wonder whether any of their wives or daughters were at the receiving end.

Sri Lankan Government: From President's House through Parliament and all the way down to the Government employee, are a plain bunch of stupid idiots. I am not at all a fan of our former president MR, but the way things are going, this country may need someone of his caliber, sooner rather than later.

transport, medical, consumer agencies/departments must be made essential services if the country wants to march forward. The politicians with their idiocincracies do not realise these issues but only interested in fattening their pockets

    ralahamy Saturday, 09 December 2017 07:25 AM

In Japan each train was slowed by 2 minutes by the drivers and the delay resulted in more than 2 hours delay at the end of the day. The commuters assaulted one train driver and he died, the strike was immediately called off. This is history. Is this what the Govt. and the Unions and failed political leaders want to happen in this country? Very pathetic.

    Unchikun Saturday, 09 December 2017 07:32 AM

Privatize the railways and appoint cable people to the transport ministry to regulate it.

    asgarmihlar Saturday, 09 December 2017 12:12 PM

This is disgusting. How many days of this govt has been spent without strikes. Is this the price we pay for the democracy of a few as against the suffering of the majority? Why cant they appoint FM Fonseka to attend to these workers

    Asf Saturday, 09 December 2017 12:35 PM

They call it as success, but for the government it's failure. And finally only the public including children are get affected by strike.
