The government which came to power with the help of the media has set taboos to media institutions which also attacked me, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday.

Responding to journalists while attending a wedding at a tourist hotel in Narigama, Hikkaduwa he said the Yahapalanaya Government was causing problems to media institutions as well as journalists.

Expressing his views about forming a new party and the leadership, he alleged the government was not capable of fulfilling the necessities of the common man, and that is why journalists and the people rallied round him wherever he went.

He said more details about the new party and its aspirations will be revealed soon. (Janath De Silva)

Looks like MR is suffering from amnesia he seems to have forgotten what happened to the media n journalist under his presidency.......only god knows why he is so power hungry why cant he just retire like former presidents his actions are clearly showing that he is trying so desperately to protect some wrong doing during his tenure as president.

"not capable of fulfilling the necessities of the common man, and that is why journalists and the people rallied round him wherever he went." Journalists rallying round mahinda , to me ,is a far cry knowing what happened in the past , Some distorted logic.

Why people always compare everything to past? when you voted for change you should expect one as well. This is not the change we wanted! Government is clearly harassing media and it is wrong regardless what MR did or did not.

I am sure Mahinda Rajapakse reads the Daily Mirror but with the comments taken out, to save him from tearing his hair out. In Greek mythology, the Gods first make them mad before destroying. This man had gone completely gaga thinking he was the saviour of journalists.
