The Multi-million international kidney transplant racket, which is allegedly conducted by Indians, will spread more and more in Sri Lanka after the signing of the proposed Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with India next month, the National Freedom Front (NFF) said today.
“The majority of those who take part in kidney scam are Indian doctors, who are practicing in Sri Lanka. Others who are being part of the scam are not government medical officers, but those who carry out private medical practices in Sri Lanka. These findings were revealed in a report carried out by Reuters,” the NFF said.
Responding to a question raised by a journalist, NFF Deputy Secretary Attorney at Law Kapila Gamage alleged the proposed ECTA would give legal endorsement for kidney transplantation racket.
He claimed that a dangerous situation would erupt in every single field in the country including health, which he said, Indians have already destroyed by carrying out and being involved in kidney transplant scandal.
Meanwhile, NFF Spokesperson Mohammed Muzammil speculated whether there was a joint attempt by Indian and Sri Lankan governments to curb the parties who objected ETCA.
He said Health Minister Rajitha Senarathne was allegedly trying to sling mud at the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) by linking the GMOA doctors with the kidney racket. (Piyumi Fonseka)
