As Omicron is becoming the dominant variant in Sri Lanka surpassing Delta, the health authorities raised the importance of curtailing public movement to avert a massive outbreak in the country.
COVID-19 Coordinator Dr. Anwar Hamdani said people should be prudent at this crucial juncture and make sure they restrict their movement.
“The sudden increase in number of COVID cases implies that Omicron is rapidly spreading in the country and the current situation could be a sign of a major outbreak in near future. Hence, it is imperative that people brace themselves,” he emphasized.
"The couple of things that people should do is to wear a mask properly and get the booster dose as soon as possible,” Dr Hamdani added.
He said only 31% had received the booster dose which need to improve further and added people show slight hesitancy in getting the booster does due to various myths and misconceptions.
"However, omicron-dominated wave would be inevitable if people failed to comply with health guidelines and take the booster," Dr Hamdani warned.
The omicron variant was discovered in South Africa just over a month ago, and experts caution that there is still plenty of time for the situation to change. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

Like UK and Japan its time to consider this virus as a seasonal flue and live with it no need to give hype and importance to it , even after vaccinating 80% - 90%, countries couldn't stop spreading and found its spreaded mostly by vaccinated due discreasing immunity after 3 months of each does including pfizer and modern so no point of lockdowns or vaccinations

The booster dose is a failure.. As many people have serious side effects such as paralysis, blood clotting and other serious life threatening issues..

Wrong advice! Increase movement so everyone catches this varient to kill off the more dangerous Indian version. Only way to get rid of Covid eventually. Health authorities need to be run by clever people, not bookworms!

Worse than flu but for most people not life threatening if fully vaccinated. However for unvaccinated and vulnerable enough to require hospitalisation and 400 deaths a day in the UK. It's best if those without expertise and with scant knowledge don't mislead.

People, wake up! Vaccines are the worst virus. I am from Europe. Here, countries with 81% vaccination have the most cases. This is the flu and nothing else! Politicians have taken a lot of money from pharmaceutical companies and they do as they are told.

UK health minister has finally admitted that the COVID deaths reported are not due to COVID but due to other diseases but unfortunately Covid positive. If someone falls off a Cliff and dies with COVID, it’s not that COVID has killed the person! We need to stop scaremongering and let people live their lives. Antibiotic resistance has killed 6.3 million (1.7 million direct and 4.5 and indirect deaths) people in 2019, much more than all the COVID deaths in the last 2 years! It’s a silent pandemic that’s killing more people especially children. 1in5 deaths are in children. Where as COVID hardly attacks children and the deaths are not as exaggerated by the authorities. Just treat it as a flu and end this drama. Let people get back to normalcy.

My husband is a cardiologist. 90% of heart deaths are vaccinated people. I'm sorry. Doctors know the truth but cannot talk about it. It is the vaccinated people who spread the virus. In addition, the composition of the vaccine is very controversial. Graphene Oxide and Spike Protein. Don't take it!
