CB governor in a campaign to be Common Candidate at next Presidential Poll: RW Advisor

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe is currently campaigning to be the Common Candidate at the next presidential election, President Ranil Wickremesinghe's Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs, Professor Ashu Marasinghe said.

He said this while addressing a debate on a television channel recently.

While talking about the country's debt situation, he said Sri Lanka had a total debt of Rs. 17,589 billion at the start of this year, which was USD 47 billion.

Professor Marasinghe cited some figures and warned the CB governor not to announce false information about the country's debt situation.

He made a direct accusation that the CB governor was lying over the debt figures.

"However, we need to figure out what sort of lies Nandalal has told in regard to the debts we already have," Marasinghe lashes out. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

This fellow has a PhD from a Japanese university. After having worked in Japan for a leading multinational company as a Telecommunications Engineer/ IT Engineer for over two decades, I have the following comment to make. Most Japanese universities award degrees to foreign as a diplomatic issue. There degrees are not valid in Japan for meaningful employment. There was one teaching English on a TV channel. I was watching this program and he was cornered by a former JVP MP who is a MBBS qualified doctor. This man was see hanging his head and silent when asked why Japan has stopped giving aid to Sri Lanka.

So called 'professor's , when making statements about high ranking officials, you should be careful. We know the current CB Governor. His honesty and integrity. With his expertise in the subject he could have secured a much more paying job elsewhere, but for the sake of the country he has accepted this offer. May be Ranil wants a rouge like Mahendran back.

Nandalal retired as Deputy Governor of CBSL (DGCBSL) in frustration, as “the powers that be” 2020 (MaRa, GR, BR, and Dinesh G) had more faith – professor Luxman and Ajith NC, caused chaotic, SL economy overlooking incumbent DGCBSL !!! He was successfully employed, in Australia! GR capitulated, called him to takeover, Governor, April 2022 melt down and debacle! Appointment and corrective actions saw gradual resurgence of SL economy last 6 months!!?? Changing the course of the country's economy’s unlike turning the direction of a TOY CAR, but more like an ocean going 150,000 TEU container ship!!! Takes time for course correction/results! Marasinghe is a typical example of a so called PhD professor that amounts to nothing even in a simple dialogue. When confronted by Dr. Jayatissa with the actual debt as per CB, he first ridiculed Jayatissa and then being counter challenged put the blame on CB for false figures! Only his figures were said to be on the spot! Sri Lankan - stop believing people merely on their reputation, but by their proven track record.

Central Bank did big losses to EPF during the Bond scam. That was that Central Bank governor. Current one too could cause lowering value private sector pensions buy forcing Central Bank to buy value losing things. Central Bank governor since he's government can ruin EPF with no concern for the sake of government or country. Private sector workers pension greater matter to them, than the country, so Central Bank governor has conflict of interest in his job already. EPF should be run independently of Central Bank with aim (legally do anything and everything) to maximize the pensions value of members without concern for the world, let alone any local matters.
