Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa questioned Transport Minister Bandula Gunawardane on how the ‘Sri Lanka Legume’ tree (Crudia zeylanica) which blocked the construction of the Colombo-Kandy Expressway in the Daraluwa area of Veyangoda, was removed within a short period of time.

Minister Bandula Gunawardane said the tree was removed so quickly due to the efficiency of the state officials who carried out the Cabinet decision to remove the tree.

"Minister, can you explain how you cut the tree and made it vanish so soon?" Wimal Weerawansa asked.

"It is the efficiency of the state officials in carrying out a Cabinet decision soon after it was taken," Minister Gunawardene said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

As if cutting a tree and removing it secretly in the night by a Government is such a great achievement ?

"It is the efficiency of the state officials". Sri Lankan State Officials and efficiency. The joke of the century.

The tree should be removed. Bankrupt Politicians should not be allowed to make a fuss about it.

The country has their priorities all mixed up at least that is the impression we get when we glance through the headlines. Worrying about a tree, a sick elephant, a stand up comedian and the list goes on. No one seems to be making headlines about the what next for growth, how best to make manufacturing sector competitive, can the government give a back up guarantee for local investors willing to invest in good growth or automation related projects etc. We only want to drag down any project with some flimsy drama.

the tree should have been uprooted not removed idiots

trees could be removed with the main roots intact and replanted elsewhere not necessary to chop it in other countries they do it .

People Power Tuesday, 18 July 2023 03:42 PM

We must also show our efficiency and remove corrupt rogue politicians with similar efficiency.

Chandra Sacrifice Shafter Tuesday, 18 July 2023 03:50 PM

Tak Tik Tuk Tuesday, 18 July 2023 03:54 PM

If the tree has great value, they should have relocated it rather than chopping it off

This guy is very efficient at making the nation laugh.

Weerawansa has no rights to question about this tree as he had committed lot of crimes and played out in millions when he was with Mahinda. Now he has got a tail, no use.... too late Wansa, already the job had been done.

    Atha Katha ... Boru Na... 100% atha. ... Tuesday, 18 July 2023 04:09 PM

Now tree is not a problem really, these bull shit Politicians Weerawansa and Bandula are clashing for nothing, evening they sit for a black coffee in a 5-star hotel for a drink and dinner, and we are the fools.

Weerawansa destroyed over 200 huge tress in his area to build four Garment Factories on his wife's name.... facts cannot be hidden.

Bandula Bolawansa [Bandula's nasty gangster at Homagama] Tuesday, 18 July 2023 04:15 PM

Sorry Weerawansa, you are a good actor with make up. But we know your inner motives to cut others neck and become a leader, it will never happen putha. sorry.... sorry.... sorry ....

WB.; Wesley Bolton Tuesday, 18 July 2023 04:18 PM

Now only the remedy is = You Weerawansa go and bow down to Ranil's feet and ask pardon and request him to absorb you in to UNP and later offer you a Ministerial Post.

    Anura Tuesday, 18 July 2023 04:38 PM

We have seen many development projects having to be designed around trees to much cost and inefficient and sub-practicle outcomes. I some instances the tree came about due to the droppings of birds and in other instances planting by individuals for very personal reasons. It is high time that this nonseis stopped and authorities do not succumb to threats of individuals.

Wimalaya is planning to write a book (fiction) where he is tree guardian. So, he is asking all the details, to make money writing books. Nothing is free in the life of Wimalaya!

It is very sad that Parliamentarians are taking things so lightly and are treating everything as a joke. Sad that the people happened to vote for these 225 hooligans to power. Look at their behaviour. They are behaving like Montessori children.

    Chichchi Tuesday, 18 July 2023 05:02 PM

    In league....

Tissa Fernando Tuesday, 18 July 2023 05:38 PM

These guys are wasting their time for a tree. If they were so fond of that tree why they did not plant a single tree in the past. Damn lies. If a tree blocks the path to a better road for public then cut it. If you are fond of that tree plant 100 trees of that kind in your backyard.

    Muhandiram Tuesday, 18 July 2023 06:04 PM

Of course, we all know how efficient state officials are when they carry out orders of Ministers under cover of darkness without the knowledge of others!

Kandula Kodiwatta Saturday, 05 August 2023 12:54 PM

Why can't we remove the politicians like that? Paga man, Kappam man, Drug Man etc are still eating from public funds - Health Killer enjoying and laughing!!
