Sri Lanka reaffirms neutral foreign policy in talks with senior US Official



Colombo, June 22 (Daily Mirror) - Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath has reaffirmed Sri Lanka's commitment to maintaining neutrality and adhering strictly to international law during discussions with Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on bilateral relations and areas of cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Herath expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by the United States to Sri Lanka, particularly assistance provided in securing fuel supplies amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. He also thanked the US government for maritime vessels and aircraft gifted to the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force.

Highlighting Sri Lanka's improving investment climate, the Minister said a secure and investor-friendly environment had been established in the country and invited American businesses to explore investment opportunities. He assured that the government remains committed to providing the necessary support and facilities for investors.

In response, Kapur said the United States highly values its relationship with Sri Lanka and looks forward to further strengthening bilateral ties.

The two sides also exchanged views on the recently initiated US-Iran agreement, with Minister Herath extending his best wishes for its success. He further conveyed congratulations to the United States and its citizens ahead of the country's 250th Independence Day celebrations on July 4.
