The Under-19 Sri Lanka girls cricket team beat their Australia counterparts in the fourth T20 match at the Dambulla International Stadium yesterday to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.

The match got off to a late start due to a wet out-field and play was confined to nine overs a side.

Sri Lanka taking first lease of the wicket helped by an opening wicket stand of 36 between in-form batter Sanjana Kavindi and Vimoksha Balasuriya enabled them to make a score of 83 for 6 in their allotted overs.

Australia in their run chase underwent an early setback as they lost the top three wickets with the score on 15 and were rescued by a 31 runs stand for the fourth wicket between Shiloh Julien and Indira Panelli.

With the visitors on 55 for 4 a heavy downpour forced the umpires to stop the match and with no further play possible the target at stoppage was 65 which ensured a nine run win on the DLS system for the host side.

The two teams will play their one off ODI on September 28 which will be followed by the fifth and final T20 match scheduled to be played on September 30 at the same venue.

Scores:

Sri Lanka U-19 girls 83 for 6 in 9 overs (Sanjana Kavindi 25, Manudi Nanayakkara 17: Lucy Finn 2/16)

Australia U-19 girls 53 for 4 in 6.3 overs (Shiloh Julien 16)
