The 2024 runners up, Singer Sri Lanka A who finished at the bottom of the league points table without a single win, made a remarkable come back to the tournament with a brilliant performance in the play offs to enter the final in the MCA Premier League 50 over tournament 2025.
Singer after beating League third placed Nawaloka Hospitals by a massive margin of 99 runs in the eliminator at Thurstan College ground, kept up the tempo by beating League second placed DFCC Bank by 50 runs in the Qualifier Two to enter the final against Expolanka Holdings August 30 at the MCA Ground.
Expolanka Holdings, who finished unbeaten in the League and took the top spot in the points table, beat League second placed DFCC Bank by 84 runs in the Qualifier One to enter the final.
In the Qualifier Two, Singer won the toss and chose to bat with the match reduced to 44 overs.
Singer was tottering at 100 for 8 at one stage and was rescued by a gutsy 53 runs stand for the ninth wicket between Sandun Fernando (40) and Dhanosh de Silva (20) to finish with 159 in 43.4 overs.
DFCC Bank given a target of scoring 161 runs in 44 overs on the DLS method, were shaken by Singer’s spinners Denuwan Rajakaruna, Dhanosh de Silva and Ashan Fernando to be all out for 110 in 30.5 overs.
