Samaposha Sri Lanka Schools Provincial Games to begin tomorrow

The Samaposha Sri Lanka Schools Provincial Games will commence tomorrow (21) under the joint organisation of the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Education Departments.

Director of Sports at the Ministry of Education, Krishan Duminda, said the competitions in the Western, North Central, North Western, Eastern, Uva, Southern, and Sabaragamuwa provinces will be conducted through to September 15.

CBL Samaposha will continue as the title sponsor of the provincial games for the 10th consecutive year. However, the Central and Northern Provincial Schools Games will not be held under the Samaposha sponsorship. More than 35,000 athletes representing around 3,500 schools are expected to compete in 70 sports during the seven provincial competitions.

The competition schedule is as follows:

North Central Province: July 21–24, Public Grounds, Anuradhapura

Uva Province: July 31–August 4, Vincent Dias Stadium, Badulla

Southern Province: August 4–7, Dadalla Sports Complex, Galle

Western Province: September 7–10, Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama

North Western Province: September 8–11, Albert F. Peiris Stadium, Wennappuwa

Eastern Province: September 9–13, Weber Stadium, Batticaloa

Sabaragamuwa Province: September 11–15, Mahaweli Public Grounds, Embilipitiya

The provincial competitions serve as a major platform for identifying and developing young sporting talent across Sri Lanka’s school system.
