Glasgow Commonwealth Games: Sri Lankan Amaya Sithumini appointed Technical Official

Sri Lankan gymnastics judge Amaya Sithumini has been appointed as a Technical Official for the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics competition at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games, marking a historic milestone for Sri Lanka.

The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics events will take place from July 24 to 28. Her appointment was approved by the Commonwealth Sport authorities following a recommendation from the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG).

This will be the first time in Commonwealth Games history that a Sri Lankan gymnastics judge will serve as a Technical Official in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics competition.

The event will feature some of the world’s leading international judges and technical officials.

Amaya Sithumini currently serves as a Demonstrator attached to the Department of Sports Science, Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. She is also a former international gymnast who represented Sri Lanka.

She previously competed for Sri Lanka at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, before moving into international judging.
