Thesath Hapuarachchi

Thesath Hapuarachchi, an 11th Year student of Royal College was adjudged as the Most Promising Junior Squash Player 2025 at the recently concluded 36th National Junior Squash Championship. 

The prestigious award is the highest accolade a junior player can receive during their playing careers.

Hapuarachchi took up squash at the age of nine and has trained throughout under the guidance of his childhood coach, Mahesh Chandana, the head coach of Royal College.  His dedication and steady progress have seen him represent Sri Lanka four times at the Asian Junior Squash Championships from 2022 to 2025, competing in Thailand, China, Pakistan and South Korea.

At the National Junior Squash Championship which concluded on August 24, Thesath finished runner-up in the Under-17 category and secured fourth place in the Under-19 division, further underlining his consistency and promise.

In addition to his international appearances, he has claimed several titles at local tournaments, steadily building a reputation as one of the country’s brightest young prospects in the sport.

His current recognition and growing achievements has pushed him to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of squash in Sri Lanka.
