111th National Tennis Championship Kurunegala girl Venuli shows her class

Venuli Jayasinghe a student of Maliyadeva BV Kurunegala was in top form as she ended victorious in two finals of the girls’ Under-16 age group of the 111th National Tennis Championship at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

Venuli bagged the Singles title with a hard fought two sets to one win over Yuhansa Peiris and then followed it up by pairing with Sandithi Usgodaarachchi to clinch the girls’ Under 16 Doubles title with a comfortable win over the pair of Chiara de Zoysa and Akesha Silva by two sets to nil.

In the men’s Open Doubles event Apna Perera and Dilvin Herath received a walk-over from Ganuka Fernando and Rehan Gunawardena. Apna too ended with a double title win having earlier emerged the men’s Open Singles champion defeating Ashen Silva in the final.

Girls Under 16 – Venuli Jayasinghe beat Yuhansa Peiris 2-1 (7/5, 6/7(2), 6/2)

Doubles

Girls Under 16 – Venuli Jayasinghe and Sandith Usgodaarachchi beat Chiara de Zoysa and Akesha Silva 2-0 (6/2, 6/0)

Men’s Open – Apna Perera and Dilvin Herath received walk-over from Ganuka Fernando and Rehan Gunawardena
