Best Players Shaleka Nirukshani and Dulanja Pahasara

Western Province and Sabaragamuwa Province emerged champions in the men’s and women’s cricket tournaments respectively at the 49th National Sports Festival (NSG).
The tournament, organised by the Ministry of Sports and the Department of Sports Development, brought together teams representing all nine provinces and was held at the Police Sports Club Ground and BRC Ground in Colombo. All matches were played in the fast-paced 10-over format.
In the men’s final, Western Province defeated Eastern Province to claim the title. Batting first, Eastern Province scored 90 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 10 overs. In reply, Western Province reached 91 for seven in 9.4 overs to seal victory. Western Province’s Dulanja Pahasara was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament. The third-place play-off saw Sabaragamuwa Province defeat Northern Province to secure the bronze medal.
In the women’s final, Sabaragamuwa Province overcame Southern Province in a low-scoring contest. Batting first, Sabaragamuwa posted 67 runs in their 10 overs. Southern Province in reply managed only 51 at the end of their innings. Sabaragamuwa’s Shaleka Nirukshani was named Best Player in the women’s category. The battle for third place had Central Province defeat Northern Province to take the bronze medal.
