Sri Lanka’s newest fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka had not expected his inclusion in the training squad for the forthcoming South Africa tour.
The 20-year-old left arm medium fast bowler is one among the 22 players chosen for the squad.
“It was unbelievable. To be frank, I didn’t expect it to be happening so soon. However, I am happy to be in the squad,” he told the Daily Mirror.
“Now with my hard and sincere work I will try to cement my place in the team,” he further added.
Dilshan will be leaving for Kandy on Wednesday to join the training squad. Players will train at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium from November 13-22.
Dilshan, who has studied upto Grade 11 (Ordinary Level), is now only concentrating on building a career in cricket has played three first class matches so far.
His elder brother, Sudesh Nirmal plays soft ball cricket while his younger brother Nipun is studying in Grade 10. Their father Sujith Krishantha is a fisherman. Interestingly, Dilshan was personally informed about his inclusion by the national head coach Mickey Arthur. The 22-member squad has unofficially been discussed with the chief selector Asantha De Mel, it is learnt.
Sri Lankan Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa is yet to name the new selection committee. The term for the last selection panel ended on August 5.
All selected players for the training squad are given the schedules of their PCR tests and have also been told about the quarantine rules.
