Trinity and Wennappuwa HFC bag hockey Sevens titles

Trinity College team – Boys’ champions.

 Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa team – Girls’ champions.

Trinity College Kandy and Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa emerged champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively at the 20th Blue and Gold Hockey 7s Invitational Schools Tournament. 

This marked Trinity College’s first boys’ title win in 13 years. The tournament, organised by the Royal College Hockey Club, was held at the Royal College Sports Complex in Colombo, featuring 40 boys’ teams and 30 girls’ teams. 

In the boys’ final, Trinity defeated St. Thomas’ College, Matale 1-0 in extra time to claim the championship.

In the girls’ final, Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa overcame President’s Girls’ School Kotte 1-0 to secure the title. 

St. Joseph’s College finished third in the boys’ category, while Kandy’s Seetha Devi Girls’ College secured third place in the girls’ category. 

Tournament hosts Royal College finished fourth in the boys’ event. Nethmina Dharmakeerthi (St. Joseph’s) was named Best Player in the boys’ category, while Methuki Ahinsa (Holy Family Convent) received the Best Player award in the girls’ category. Lucien Gunawardena (Trinity) and Samodi Sathsarani (President’s Girls’) were recognised as the Best Goalkeepers in their respective categories.
