Suranga Wijenayake no more

Former left arm spinner Suranga Wijenayake who represented the Sri Lanka Under-19 and Sri Lanka A teams in the 1990s passed away at the age of 48 on Monday and his funeral will take place today at the General Cemetery in Mount Lavinia.

Wijenayake was a prized produced of Prince of Wales College in Moratuwa and played as an allrounder at a time there was intense competition in the school cricket arena and lived up to expectations. After retiring from played he took to coaching.

A family spokesman said Wijenayake died of a heart attack.

At the time of his death Wijenayake was serving as a provincial coach of Sri Lanka Cricket covering the Western Province.
His remains now lie at Prince of Wales College from where it will be taken for burial at the Mount Lavinia cemetery.
