Debutants Sri Lions will lock horns with last placed Navy Sports Club on March 15 at the Racecourse ground.
Kick-off is at 4.00 p.m.
Sri Lions have confirmed their place at number eight in the league standings, marking a respectable first season in top-flight rugby. However, they are not just content with participation – they have already made headlines as giant killers, defeating much-fancied CH and Navy earlier in the campaign. As they prepare for their final game, they will be determined to finish on a high with another strong performance.
Skipper Kevin Dixon has been an inspirational leader while players like Dinuk Amarasinghe have played key roles in their success. Their ability to punch above their weight has been one of the season’s biggest surprises. With their fearless approach and attacking flair, the Lions will be eager to add another win to their tally before they end their maiden league tournament.
On the other hand, Navy SC has endured a nightmare season, failing to register a single victory. The Sailors, once a powerhouse in Sri Lankan rugby, have struggled throughout the campaign and will be desperate to salvage some pride in their final outing. To make matters worse, they are also out of contention for the Clifford Cup, adding to their disappointment.
Despite their struggles, Navy still has some individual brilliance in their ranks. Thilina Weerasinghe, Koojana Kulatunge, and Shabith Musheen remain key players, and they will need to step up if they are to break their winless streak.
The Lions will go in as favourites, but Navy will be playing for pride, making this an intriguing battle. A win for Sri Lions would be the perfect way to cap off their debut season, while Navy will be desperate to avoid a winless campaign.
Suranga Arunashantha is the referee.
