Sri Lanka’s three senior athletes who competed at the Malaysian Open Athletics Championship 2026 won two gold medals and one silver medal.
Three athletes and one coach represented Sri Lanka at the championship.
Organised by the Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF), the competition was held from June 19 to 21 with invited athletes from seven countries participating.
Tarindu Dushan Samaraweera won the men’s high jump gold medal after clearing 2.22 metres, while Harsha Karunaratne secured gold in the men’s 800 metres with a winning time of 1: 50.61 seconds.
Roshan Dhammika claimed the silver medal in the men’s 110-metre hurdles, clocking 14.19 seconds.
The results are expected to provide a significant boost for Sri Lankan athletics as athletes continue preparations for upcoming international competitions.
