Sri Lanka pick javelin throwers Tharanga and Lekamge for Asian meet

Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has decided to field Rumesh Tharanga and Dilhani Lekamge at the upcoming Asian Throwing Championships scheduled to take place on August 21 and 22 in Mokpo, South Korea. 
The participation aims to further enhance Rumesh Tharanga’s performance and give Dilhani Lekamge the opportunity to secure direct qualification for the World Athletics Championships. 
The IAAF World Athletics Championships will be held from September 13 to 21 in Tokyo, Japan. So far, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga and Sumeda Ranasingha have already earned direct qualification for the men’s javelin throw events. 
According to the current world javelin throw rankings, Rumesh Tharanga is currently ranked seventh while Sumeda Ranasingha holds the 10th position.
