Sri Lanka Women beat Pakistan Women to qualify for the Asian Games 2023 final
Sri Lanka’s Women’s cricket team qualified for the Gold medal match at the Asian Games, after beating Pakistan by six wickets in the semi-final yesterday at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China.
Sri Lanka, who won bronze at the last Asian Games in 2018, are already guaranteed an upgrade on that medal, facing India Women in the final tomorrow.
Batting first, in what turned out to be a low-scoring game, Pakistan mustered a total of 75 for 9 in 20 overs, with left-arm medium-pace bowler Udeshika Prabodhani taking 3 for 21 and spinner Kavisha Dilhara picking up two wickets for 15 runs.
Shawaal Zulfiqar top scored for Pakistan with 16, with only Mubeeba Ali and Omaima Sohail being the only other batters to score in double figures.
In reply, Sri Lanka reached the target with relative ease, with Harshitha Samarawickrama leading her team with 23.
By the time she was dismissed in the 16th over, Sri Lanka were only six runs from victory.
Samarawickrama and Nilakshi de Silva combined in a 35-run partnership after Sri Lanka were 35 for 3.
De Silva remained unbeaten on 18 after the opening pair of captain Chamari Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani scored 14 and 15 respectively.
