The lush fairways of the Royal Colombo Golf Club played host to an exhilarating day of junior golf as the 2025 Sri Lanka Junior Match Play Golf Championship teed off on August 5 sponsored by Perera & Sons in cherished memory of Rukmini Kodagoda, a trailblazer in Sri Lankan golf.
Rising golf prodigy Adhithya Weerasinghe led the field with an impressive even-par gross score of 71, securing the top seed position.
Close on his heels was the ever-consistent Reshan Algama with a gross 73, followed by the steady performances of Varun Fernando (gross 76) and Thangadorai Deshan (gross 77). These four standout players demonstrated disciplined play and excellent course management, and will now be joined by four other strong contenders in the Championship Match Play stage.
Meanwhile, the Consolation draw features promising young golfers Ayaan Abeywickrema Gunesekera, A. A. Amarasinghe, Kian Saakya Bandara Niyerepola, and Akein Subasinghe. Alongside the other qualifiers, they will look to make their mark in head-to-head match play encounters as they vie for honors in the Consolation bracket.
Leading the field in this category was Kaya Daluwatte, widely regarded as one of Sri Lanka’s most accomplished junior female golfers. Her commanding gross score of 70 reflected not only her exceptional skill and consistency but also the invaluable experience gained from competing overseas. Joining her at the top were Aaraadhi Samarathne, K.M. Anumi Karunathilake, and Keya Abhayaratne, all of whom showcased remarkable talent and promise.
All girls in this division progress to the Championship match play, where each match will test their strategic thinking and nerves under pressure. The girls’ division continues to grow stronger, highlighting the rising interest and talent in women’s golf.
The Silver Division witnessed standout performances from Thejas Rathiskanth (Gross 76), Lavidu Sohas Premarathna (Gross 79), Udheera Rashwitha Bandara (Gross 83), and Shenal Nimsith (Gross 85), who emerged as the top four qualifiers. Together with four additional contenders, they complete the Championship match play draw for this division.
The Girls Silver Division was led by Lorance Sithara Dedunu, Genuli Weerakoon, S Kaitlyn Norton, and Aditi Iddamalgoda, all of whom now prepare to face off in the Championship match play draw that includes all other qualifiers.
