The Milo Colours Award Ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Sports Council with the blessings of the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Nestle Lanka PLC held at the BMICH recently saw Rathushka Karunatileke of Nalanda Colombo and Hansani Piyumila Kapugeekiyana of Visakha Vidyalya Colombo being adjudged the most outstanding sportsman and sportswoman for the year 2017.
Rathushka and Hansani were recognized for their tireless and outstanding performances in their respective sports of badminton and table tennis. Apart from their performance in the local tournaments the duo represented the country in various international tournaments.
Meanwhile Akalanka Peiris of St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya and Hasini Ambalangodage, another from Visakha Colombo, were adjudged the emerging sportsman and sportswoman for the year 2017 who all were selected among the 500 and over recipients from the 31 sports that came under the criteria of the Sri Lanka Sports Council.
The award ceremony was held for recipients who showed their talents in the year 2016 and 2017 which was conducted in two sessions with the 2016 ceremony in the morning and the 2017 in the evening.
Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister of Education graced the occasion as the chief guest and Fabrice Cavallin, Managing Director Nestle Lanka PLC as the guest of honour along with officials of the Ministry of Education and Nestle Lanka PLC.
