No politician has been given the opportunity to contest for the position of chairman or other positions in the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation’s (2025-2029) administrative power.

Since the late eighties (for more than thirty years), many politicians, including cabinet ministers, have continuously held the position of president of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.

However, experts in the field have taken steps not to invite any politician for the relevant position when calling for nominations for the 2025-2029 volleyball term.

The last time the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation was Chaired by Thilak Iddamalgoda, a former DIG at that time, in the late eighties.

Thereafter, the volleyball administration became politicised and D. B. Wickramasinghe, Bennett Cooray, Ronnie de Mal, Ashoka Wadigamangawa, Susil Munasinghe, Kinsley Wickramaratne, Reggie Ranatunga, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Dilan Perera and Kanchana Jayaratne served until 2025.

In addition, Charitha Ratwatte, Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and Eranda Weliange also worked under political backgrounds.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation elections are scheduled to be held on May 31 at 10.00 a.m. at the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka Auditorium.

During the nominations, Senior DIG Sanjeewa Medawatte was elected unopposed as the new volleyball chairman.

In addition, all key positions are appointed unopposed by one party.
