Tons by Galle’s Dinesh Chandimal against Colombo and Jaffna’s Ravindu Rasantha against Dambulla were the highlights of the first day’s play in the four-day National Super League cricket tournament played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium and Pallekele Stadium, respectively. The two matches were called off early due to bad light.
Chandimal made 132 that included 14 boundaries and a six and shared a sixth wicket stand of 119 runs with Ramesh Mendis, who remained unbeaten on 56 for Galle, taking first lease, to make 276/7 when bad light stopped play.
Ravindu Rasantha made an unbeaten ton which had ten boundaries, and he put on two valuable partnership; the first, a 51-run stand for the second wicket with Thanuka Dabare, and an unbroken 131-run stand for the third wicket with Angelo Mathews (63 not out) to help Jaffna end day one on 206/2 as the match was called off with only 62 overs of play being possible.
The matches will continue today.
