NSG to begin with Cross-Country Meet

The 48th National Sports Games (NSG) 2024 conducted by the Ministry of Sports will commence with the Cross-Country Meet on March 15 at Nuwara Eliya.   
Over 100 long-distance runners are set to participate in this event, which will be conducted at the province level.   


The 2024 NSG will include a total of 32 sports and will be worked off from March 15 to July 19 at different venues including Colombo, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Badulla, Polonnaruwa, Matara, Mahiyanganaya, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Embilipitiya, Ratnapura, Bandaragama, Negombo and Gampaha.   


The track and field events, which are the key events of the NSG, will be held from July 17-19 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.   
All NSG events will be completed by June 19 as the Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.   


NSG Competition Calendar: March 15: Cross-Country – Nuwara Eliya. June 1-12: Wrestling (Galle), Beach Kabaddi (Negombo), Beach Volleyball (Negombo), Tug-of-War (Badulla) and Taekwondo (Nawalapitiya). June 7-9: Weightlifting (Polonnaruwa), Badminton (Galle) and Karate - Do (Matara). June 8-9 Judo (Nawalapitiya). June 13-16 Handball (Bandaragama). June 14-16 Cycling, Marathon, Race Walking (Mahiyanganaya), Softball Cricket (Embilipitiya), Gymnastics (Colombo) and Carrom (Colombo). June 26-30 Chess (Colombo), Cricket (Colombo). June 28-30: Football (Jaffna), Kabaddi (Kilinochchi), Netball (Ratnapura), Basketball (Colombo), Table Tennis (Bandaragama) and Elle (Embilipitiya). July 4-7: Volleyball (Gampaha) and Boxing (Colombo). July 5-7 Swimming (Colombo), Rugby (Colombo), Hockey (Bambalapitiya) and Wushu (Colombo). July 7: Bodybuilding (Colombo). July 17-19 Athletics (Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo).
