Mutthusami, Methmi emerge cross-country champions

Mutthusami Sivarajan of the Central Province and Methmi Wijesuriya of Eastern Province emerged winners of the Cross-Country run of the 49th National Sports Festival 2025, organised by the Department of Sports Development of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and held in Nuwara Eliya.

Sivarajan secured first place in the Men’s category with a time of 34:21s, followed by Samantha Pushpakumara of the Western Province, who finished second behind by just 0.2 seconds, clocking in at 34:57s. Damith Hemantha Kumara, also from the Western Province, claimed third place with a time of 34:59s.

In the Women’s category, Wijesuriya took first place with a time of 38:41s, while Wathsala Herath from the Central Province finished second at 40:04s narrowly beating Chamini Samudrika Herath, also from the Central Province, by 0.14 seconds (40:18s).

The 10km run was open to individuals over the age of 15, attracting athletes from across the country at the National Cross-Country run, which flagged off the National Sports Festival.
