Mithun Perera emerged as the early pace setter at the end of the first day of the Sri Lanka Open Golf Open Championship 2026 with an impressive score of 66 at the Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday.
Mithun’s composed and consistent round placed him at the top of the leaderboard as he edged ahead of a tightly packed chasing group which promises an exciting battle over the remaining rounds of the tournament.

His accurate approach play and steady putting helped him gain the early advantage in the prestigious championship which has attracted many of the country’s leading golfers.
Reshan Algama and N. Thangaraja are tied in second place after both golfers carded excellent rounds of 68, staying just two shots behind the leader. Their strong starts kept the pressure firmly on Mithun heading into the next round.
Haroon Aslam also remained well within striking distance after producing a solid three under par 69 to occupy fourth position on the leaderboard.
The Sri Lanka Open Championship consists of four rounds for professional golfers while amateurs too take part in it.
