Fire at Horana elders’ home kills 11 people

Colombo, June 4 (Daily Mirror) - A total of 11 people have been confirmed dead following a massive fire that broke out at an elders’ home in Anguruwatota, Horana on Tuesday evening, police said.

Three other residents remain unaccounted for, while seven injured individuals have been admitted to the Horana District Hospital for treatment.

According to authorities, 72 residents were at the facility when the blaze erupted. 

Rescue teams managed to evacuate 44 occupants without injuries.

Police said investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the fire, while search efforts remain underway for the three missing residents.
