Isipathana Old Boys touch rugby champs

The Isipathana College Old Boys UK touch rugby team, known as the Green Machine, emerged victorious at the third Festival of Rugby (FOR) 2026, held at Fullerians RFC, Watford on May 24.

Displaying exceptional teamwork, skill and determination throughout the tournament, the Green Machine delivered an outstanding performance to claim the championship title.

In the semifinal, Isipathana College OBA UK faced St. Peter’s College OBA UK and secured a convincing 2–0 victory.  Tries were scored by Sudam Sooriyaarachchi and Asel Jayawardena, highlighting the team’s attacking strength.

The Green Machine then advanced to the final against Trinity College OBA UK. In a closely contested match, Sudam Sooriyaarachchi, who was later named Player of the Tournament and Asel Jayawardena crossed the line to score, guiding Isipathana to a well-earned 2–1 victory and the championship crown.

Throughout the competition, the team remained unbeaten, demonstrating a formidable defensive structure and remarkable cohesion on the field.

Isipathana College OBA UK team comprised Banuka Jayawardena (captain), Asel Jayawardena, Sudam Sooriyaarachchi, Tharbish Mowlana, Shanaka Kumara, Asanka Ganegala, Areeb Alavi, Gayan Fernando, Sakaaf Mowlana and Venura Weerasinghe (manager).

The Isipathana B team also showcased tremendous passion, commitment and resilience, progressing all the way to the Shield final. The team  comprised Fazal Alavi, Shashika Dissanayake (captain), Amaar Alavi, Aakif Alavi, Hiruka  Ganegala, Aroos Ali, Pasindu Niroshana and Venura Weerasinghe (manager)
