G.M.A. Cricket Club Moratuwa hosts 7th annual awards ceremony

Golden Memorable Athletic Cricket Club of Moratuwa is a registered cricket club under the Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) and has been active for the past 18 years. The ceremony was held to appreciate players who have excelled and displayed exceptional talent for the club.
G.M.A. CC of Moratuwa competes in the Colombo District Division Three Cricket Tournament. The club also fields teams in the Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, as well as the Division Three category. Awards for Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best All Rounder, Best Emerging Player, and Best Disciplined Player were presented at this colourful ceremony, which was held for the seventh consecutive year at the Buddhist Hall, Moratuwa, recently.
This memorable awards ceremony was initiated under the concept of G.M.A. CC Head Coach, Ashan Fernando.
He has also introduced Sri Lanka’s first-ever and only Parents Cricket Team, known as the G.M.A. CC Parents Team, which was also recognised during the ceremony. Only parents of players registered with the club are eligible to be members of the team. The team has been active for nearly three years. During this period, the team has competed against England, Australia, and Sri Lanka Over-40 and Over-50 Masters Cricket teams, showcasing commendable performances. The team is also a registered member of the Colombo District Masters Cricket Association and has delivered several notable performances in Division Three tournaments conducted by the CDCA since its inception. Comprising many talented players from the Colombo district, the team qualified for the 2024 Malaysian Tour, where it performed admirably under the guidance of Fernando.
CDCA Vice President Aruna De Silva, Sri Lanka Cricket Fast Bowling Coach Anusha Samaranayake, former cricketer Sanjeewa Ranatunga, Managing Director of George Steuarts Eran Ranasinghe, Chance Sports Proprietor Lasantha Amarasinghe, Cricket Coach and Senior Journalist Ranjan Paranavithana, Veteran Cricket Commentator and Umpire Sena Nandavira, Director and Match Referee Athula Wickramathilaka, along with many other distinguished guests, were present to witness this seventh annual awards ceremony in 2025.
