Flying Birds soar high at Western Province tourney

Flying Birds Sports Club, Colombo, became A division champions at the Western Province Open (League) Netball Tournament 2025 held at Henry Pediris Park in Colombo.

The tournament, organised by the Western Province Netball Association (WPNA), had the participation of 18 sports clubs and invited school teams. 

In a thrilling final, Flying Birds secured a decisive 24-12 victory over Speed Birds SC, Colombo to claim the ‘A’ Division title.

Kasuni Wathsala of Flying Birds was named the Best Player of the final and the tournament. Speed Birds SC triumphed in the Over-40 Veterans competition defeating Anulians Sports Club, Nugegoda 18-04 in the final.

Former Sri Lank netball captain and national-level coach, Somitha de Alwis, won the Best Player award in the veterans’ category.
