Easy for Saunders, tough for Police SC

Saunders Sports Club defeated Java Lane Sports Club 3–0 and Police Sports Club edged out a determined St. Mary’s Sports Club Jaffna 1–0 in the sixth week matches of the FFSL Champions League at the Race Course Ground in Colombo.

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) is the organiser of the competition with the participation from 14 top division teams in the country.

Saunders vs Java Lane

In a one-sided encounter, Saunders SC maintained control from the early stages and secured a comfortable 3-0 victory. The team led 2–0 at half time with goals from Clauvice Franck and Roger Philippe.

The third goal came in the 65th minute scored by Ziard Mufazzal.

However the match ended on a sour note for Saunders as SKSM Priyadarshana received a red card in the 90th minute resulting in his dismissal.

Roger Philippe was adjudged the Man of the Match for his 

outstanding performance.

Police vs St. Mary’s SC

The Group B match between Police SC and St. Mary’s SC Jaffna was a tightly contested affair with both teams struggling to break the deadlock. The match was decided by a single goal scored by Police SC player Chalanka Nishantha that came as early as in the fifth minute.

His performance and match winning goal earned him the Best Player of the Match award.
