Science College pulled off a stunning win over the fancied and high-riding Thurstan side when they came out winners by 26 points to 14 in the match played at Mt Lavinia yesterday to chalk up their first-ever win of the ongoing Dialog Schools Rugby League tournament.

Science, in fact, surprisingly dominated proceedings in both the sessions of play and made their presence felt by taking the lead in the first session of play.

Science, having taken a 19-14 lead at the breather, made up their points from three goals and a try to the two goals scored by Thurstan. Science made the first scoring with the game just under ten minutes old and then succeeded with another try five minutes later, and with both being converted, they led 14-0.

In the 23rd minute, Thurstan decreased the deficit with a converted try, but Science struck back six minutes later with a try that was converted to stretch the lead to 19-7. In the dying stages, Thurstan breached the Science defence for a try, and with the conversion being successful, the short whistle was blown with Science leading 19-14.
The second half proved to be a ding-dong battle with the two sides sharing honours, and Science increased their lead in the 22nd minute, and with the conversion booted over, the host side went up 26-14, and with no further scoring, Science coasted to a comfortable 26-14 to chalk up their first win of the tournament.
