The Sri Lanka athletics team left the yesterday for India to participate in the prestigious World Athletics Bronze Label Invitation Competition, which will be held in Bhubaneswar, India.
This meet, jointly organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Athletics Federation of India, is expected to attract athletes from several Asian nations who have yet to qualify for the upcoming World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for September 13–21.
Sri Lanka will be represented by a contingent of nine athletes, including seven male competitors and two female competitors, accompanied by two officials. The local team will look to test their form and possibly secure qualifying standards ahead of the global event in Japan.
Sri Lanka Athletics Squad: Men’s 100m: YCM Yodasinghe, Men’s Javelin: Sumedha Ranasinghe, Rumesh Tharanga, Men’s 400m/4x400m Relay: Kalhara Indupa Silva, Omel de Silva, Sadew Rajakaruna, Inesh Dishmitha, Women’s 400m: Nishendra Silva, Women’s Javelin: Dilhani Lekamge, Officials: Ramindu Theekshana (Coach/Manager), Sunethra Karunanayake (Coach/Lady Chaperone)
The competition will serve as a key opportunity for Sri Lankan athletes to gain international exposure and measure their performance levels against top regional contenders.
