The Ananda College Rowing Crew has once again made its mark at the National Rowing Championships, securing a rich haul of 12 gold medals and four bronze medals while reaffirming their position as one of the most dominant rowing teams in the country.
A total of 25 rowers competed in this year’s championship, supported by six dedicated team members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to uplift the team.
Training began at the end of January and their long journey of commitment and perseverance culminated in a victory the boys can be proud of.
Alongside their medal wins, the crew was also able to get two of their coxed four crews into the finals, where they delivered commanding performances — a milestone achievement for Ananda, marking their return to the current level of dominance after 10 years.
This success has been put down to the exceptional leadership and guidance of coach Ravin Karunaratne and teacher-in-charge Sandya Madagammana with the backing of old boys Shanil Siriwardhene, Yumeth Rathnayake and Ramindu whose support and mentorship played a key role in the victory according to the school.
The 2006 Batch of Ananda College sponsored the crew kits along with their Rowing Wing from around the world.
The rowers who made it happen were Yesith Gallage the captain, Bhanuka Ilangasinghe, Ichira Sithmal, Sandila Sujayana, Chanuth Perera, Lakindu de Silva, Senidu Jayatilake, Yuneth Balasooriya, Mishma Liyanage, Sihas Hewavithanage, Chanuk Rathnayaka, Suhith Gunasena, Sonith Rajapakse, Lisath Jayasundara, Sandaru Ekanayake, Kemith Rajapakse, Daniru Athukorala, Romal Subasinghe, Thisath Attanayake, Binuk Wanniarachchi, Sasun Dias, Lonitha Hansana and Sahel Wickramanayake.
