111th National Tennis Championship Dinara, Apna set to defend titles

Defending champions in the women’s and men’s Open singles Dinara de Silva and Apna Perera along with Nesangi Hemakumara and Ashen Silva made it to the final of the 111th National Tennis Championship by coming out victorious in the semifinal encounters played at the SLTA tennis courts at Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

In the women’s Open Dinara had an easy passage against Yuhansa Peiris with a two sets to nil victory while Nesangi had to pull out all her tricks in the bag before brushing off the challenge of Venuli Jayasinghe before securing a two sets to one win.

In contrast the men’s Open encounters turned out to be one sided affairs with Apna posting victory over Ganuka Fernando and Ashen beating Dumindu Dilum with the identical winning margins of two sets to nil.

Meanwhile in the two Under 16 boys’ semifinals which was played concurrently Aahil Kaleel and Saha Kapilasena booked berths in the final by recording comfortable two sets to nil wins against Nevan Kannangara and Mayooran Kubheran.

Women’s Open – Dinara de Silva beat Venuli Jayasinghe 2-1 (6/3, 4/6, 6/4), Nesangi Hemakumara beat Yuhansa Peiris 2-0 (6/2, 6/0)
Men’s Open – Apna Perera beat Ganuka Fernando 2-0 (6/3, 6/3), Ashen Silva beat Dumindu Dilum 2-0 (6/2, 6/2)
Boys Under 16 – Aahil Kaleel beat Nevan Kannangara 2-0 (6/1, 6/0). Saha Kapilasena beat Mayooran Kubheran 2-0 (6/3, 6/2)
