protesting against Israel Young man acquitted

A young man who had been on remand for more than nine months before he was released on bail on the charge of protesting against Israel was acquitted yesterday by Mount Lavinia Addl. Magistrate Hemali Halpandeniya.  

The suspect Mohamed Rifai Mohmed Zuhail (21) had been arrested on October 25, 2024 under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. He was a resident of Mawanella area. Dehiwala police had told court when the suspect was produced first that they had sufficient evident to charge him under the PTA. This resulted in the suspect being remanded for more than nine months before his release on bail.
