Yoshitha arrested as part of prosecution; indictment to be filed soon; Justice Minister

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa  was arrested as  part of the prosecution and that he would be  prosecuted within a month or so under money laundering, Justice Minister  Harshana Nanayakkara said yesterday.   
The Minister said granting bail to Yoshitha does not mean  that he is acquitted and that he was granted bail as per the provisions  of the Bail Act.   
He said some people are trying to convince that the  government is acting in the same manner as the previous governments and  that doubts are raised about the Attorney General’s Department and the  Public Security Minister over Yoshitha’s case. “All these doubts will be cleared in a month or so when indictments are filed in the High Court,” he  said.   
He said the incident had occurred eight years ago and that  however, he had not been named a suspect in the case, maybe due to  political reasons.   
“It is a must to record a statement from a suspect before filing indictments in the High Court.
