Woman lures men into love affairs, robs them

 An organized gang that uses a woman to build love affairs with young men through WhatsApp messages, lured them to meet at deserted areas in Mihintale and robbed them of their cash, jewellery and motorcycles was arrested by Mihintale police.   

 Police had arrested the woman and three men and recovered two motorcycles, four mobile phones, bank ATM cards, and other property belonging to the victims. The woman was 31 years of age and the men 21, 27 and 32 years. They were from Anuradhapura and Kekirawa areas.   

 The suspects had been arrested during investigation of complaints received from two victims of the racket from Minuwangoda and Avukana areas.   They told police that on the request of the woman, acquainted through Facebook, they visited Mihintale and that they were taken to a deserted area, robbed them of their motorcycles, cash, jewellery, mobile phones and ATM cards.    A senior police official said the irony of it was that the victims who fell prey to the racketeers were individuals more than 50 years of age, holding senior positions.   Police said the suspects would be produced in court and seek a court order to detain them for further questioning.   

 A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Praneeth Dissanayake had conducted investigations on the instructions of OIC Mihintale Police CI Chandrasiri Ranjith and ASP Prabhath Vithana.
