Wild elephant tramples father, daughter to death

In a tragic turn of events increasing the death toll in the human- elephant conflict, a young woman and her father were trampled to death by a wild elephant at Moragahaulpotha in Wilgamuwa in the Matale district last morning,

Victims G.Ananda Samarawickrema (57) and his daughter Thanuja Samarawickrema (25) were residents of Porakanathha in Wilgamuwa.

The former was taking his daughter to Moragahaupotha where she worked in a farm when they encountered the wild elephant on the road.   

Police said the residents had rushed the injured to Wilgamuwa divisional hospital where they were pronounced dead.  Wilgamuwa police are conducting further investigations.
