Ven: Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara thera imprisoned for nine months

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday jailed Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven: Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thera for nine months simple imprisonment with an additional fine of Rs: 1500.  

The Magistrate further imposed an additional one month’s imprisonment in defaultment of payment of the fine.  

Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena issued this order while issuing his judgment against the thera for insulting Islam and for making defamatory and hatred speeches against the Muslim community in the country.  

Magistrate Pasan Amarasena asserted that the Police had proven the prosecution case beyond reasonable doubt.

However the defense Counsel Gamini Alwis who appeared for the suspect with A.A.L.   Sanjaya Ariyadasa, Iresh Seneviratne, Sanjaya Marambe and Pubudu Wellahewa that the thera will appeal against the Magistrate’s order
