Commenting on the recent proceedings involving former President Ranil Wickramasinghe, United National Party (UNP) Chairman Wajira Abeywardhane yesterday expressed serious concerns about Mr.Wickramasinghe’s health

“Mr. Wickremesinghe’s normal routine was disrupted when he was questioned for four hours and kept in court for over ten hours. This has had adverse effects on his health,” he said.

According to Abeywardene, Wickremesinghe maintains a strict daily schedule: working from morning until 12:30 p.m., resting until 3:00 p.m., and then continuing work until 10:00 p.m. He noted that six doctors had certified Wickremesinghe’s health condition and signed his bail documents, with ongoing treatment being provided. His personal physician may attend to him at a later stage, he added. Responding to media reports claiming that only Wickremesinghe’s wife is familiar with the operation of a special machine that assists him in sleeping, Abeywardene did not deny the claim.

“It’s natural for close family members—especially spouses—to be familiar with a patient’s medical needs and routine treatments,” he said.
