Two fishermen die after drinking liquid from bottle washed ashore in Noraicholai

Two fishermen from Narakkuliya in Noraicholai  died and two others were taken seriously ill after drinking the contents of a bottle that had floated ashore. The deceased have been identified as Thushara Sampath (34) and Munisami Vishwa (40), both residents of Narakkuliya.  

According to police investigations, one of the fishermen had found the bottle floating in the sea and shared its contents with others. Soon after consuming the liquid, they became violently ill. The owner of the drag net rushed them to the Puttalam Base Hospital, where one man died a few hours after admission. The following morning, another fisherman was found lying motionless on the beach and was pronounced dead by police officers who arrived at the scene.  

Puttalam Acting Magistrate Vasim Rajah visited the site and conducted a preliminary magisterial inquiry. He ordered that the bodies be sent to the Judicial Medical Officer of the Puttalam Base Hospital for post-mortem examinations to determine the cause of death. Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
