The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has launched an investigation into a statement made by Nandun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, alias ‘Harak Kata,’ concerning former Minister Tiran Alles and suspended IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
Harak Kata alleged that he is being detained in Tangalle after refusing to pay a Rs. 300 million bribe, allegedly demanded by former Public Security Minister Tiran Alles and suspended Deshabandu Tennakoon.
He made the allegations on Wednesday while being escorted by police from the Colombo Court Complex following a court hearing.
“There are so many things to say. I will reveal them then,” he briefly told reporters before being taken back into custody.
Wickramaratne also alleged that his ongoing detention costs Rs. 10 million per month. Authorities have not yet commented on the claims.
Police said that a TID team has been appointed to investigate the remarks and that the inquiry commenced yesterday.
